Street

Helsinki, Vallila. 6.2.2009

This quiet Vallila street with wooden houses could be from another time. Except the cars. Often I wonder how the city would look without cars, traffic lights and signs. Some fine old photographs tell the story.

Hotel Torni (Tower)

Helsinki, Kalevankatu. 2.2.2009

Hotel Torni (Tower) was opened in 1931. Bright sunshine paid tribute to it today. The hotel has an interesting history connected to wartime politics and also to the cultural life in Helsinki. On the top there is a cocktail bar, and from there an amazing view over the city. Well, we did not go there this afternoon.

Columba palumbus

Helsinki, Kumpula. 1.2.2009

I made a proper Sunday walk by the seaside and through the Annala gardens. Also a proper Sunday talk with neighbours with whom I walked. On the way back home we noticed this bird. Wood-pigeon is more slender and looks more noble than the pigeons you see in the town centre.
