Go into action

Helsinki, Vallila. 27.2.2009

Local people are called to go into action, because the City of Helsinki plans to build a road to the nearby valley. That would destroy the surroundings of a manor house and an allotment garden, the green heaven for us.

Your way

Helsinki, Vallila. 10.2.2009

For a moment there was a glimpse of sunshine, and the smell of melting snow felt like spring.

Fog and drizzle

Helsinki, Meilahti. 8.2.2009

Quite a weather to take a walk - and those guys in the picture are walking on the ice. Well, anyway I fought my way through fog and drizzle with a friend, and back home after a hot shower I felt fine.

Helsinki, at home. 7.2.2009

Emergency grapes, because today there was not much time for taking photos.

Helsinki, Vallila. 6.2.2009

This quiet Vallila street with wooden houses could be from another time. Except the cars. Often I wonder how the city would look without cars, traffic lights and signs. Some fine old photographs tell the story.

A toast

Helsinki, at home. 5.2.2009

A friend is having her birthday today. The same date as our national poet J.L. Runeberg's. I invited her to celebrate. So far this glass is empty, only the reflections.

Hotel Torni (Tower)

Helsinki, Kalevankatu. 2.2.2009

Hotel Torni (Tower) was opened in 1931. Bright sunshine paid tribute to it today. The hotel has an interesting history connected to wartime politics and also to the cultural life in Helsinki. On the top there is a cocktail bar, and from there an amazing view over the city. Well, we did not go there this afternoon.

Columba palumbus

Helsinki, Kumpula. 1.2.2009

I made a proper Sunday walk by the seaside and through the Annala gardens. Also a proper Sunday talk with neighbours with whom I walked. On the way back home we noticed this bird. Wood-pigeon is more slender and looks more noble than the pigeons you see in the town centre.
